My research career

Full Professor of the Condensed Physics Department at the University of Valladolid

He is a very well-known scientist in the field of cellular materials since he co-founded the Cellular Materials Laboratory in 1999.

Research lines

  • Nanocellular polymers
  • Cellular composites
  • Polyurethane foams
  • Bioplastic and multifunctional cellular materials

My activity

His research activities have been constantly focused on developing new knowledge and technologies in the field of cellular material and due to the work carried out during the last 25 years he has managed to publish more than 250 papers in JCR journals, he has participated and/or managed more than 50 public funded projects, (European Projects, national and regional projects) and more than 70 private funded projects. Besides that, he has participated in more than 250 scientific conferences and he has supervised more than 30 Ph.D. theses, (more than 15 in the last 10 years).

Some of his developments in the cellular materials field have resulted in several patents, (15 patents) from which four of them are currently under exploitation. In other cases, the projects ruled by him have given as a result products that are nowadays commercial in several countries.

Professor Rodríguez-Pérez has received three awards in the last 5 years. For instance, he was selected as SPE fellow in 2017. These awards recognize the high quality of the research activities performed in CellMat Laboratory and the high level of innovation that the Laboratory maintains.

His international prestige has allowed him to become a member of the Boards of Directors in the Foams and Thermoplastics division of the SPE (Society of Plastic Engineers) as well as to be a member of editorial board of the two JCR journals that are exclusively focused on polymeric cellular materials: Cellular Polymers and Journal of Cellular Polymers. From January 2019, he is the chief editor of Cellular Polymers.

In 2012, together with other researchers of the CellMat Laboratory he created the spinoff company CellMat Technologies SL (www.cellmattechnologies.com). Nowadays he is the CEO of this company that was born with the main objective of transferring knowledge and technology in the field of cellular materials to its industrial partners.
